Stable again

After a few hours it looked like Joe wasn't in any imminent danger. His oxygen saturation had started to rise and his other vital signs were stabilising. May looked a little less tense. Joe seemed to have come through this particular crisis. I can't say we felt any relief, he was too fragile for that, but we were slightly reassured that he seemed more settled. It was very difficult to get Anna to leave the hospital that night but the nurses persuaded us all that they were much happier with Joe's condition and she needed to get some sleep.

Tracey, Robbie and Beth had come through and they had brought our grandson Junior. It was such a comfort to cuddle his little body. We hadn't seen him for 2 weeks and we missed him. We all went back to the one-bedroomed cottage we were renting and moved the furniture around as best we could so everyone could get some sleep. We had anticipated a long night and the children had brought some duvets and a change of clothes. Whatever happens in our family we are always there for each other and this night was no exception. We slept because we were exhausted. The next day the hospital let the children in to see Joe before they travelled back to Scarborough. They couldn't sit in the hospital forever, they were an hour and a half away by car  and we promised to call them immediately if Joe's condition deteriorated again.
