Just to clear my head and allow me to make sense of what has happened I've decided to blog it. On the 14th March 2012 my 17 year old stepson Joe died just over a month after what should have been a relatively 'routine kidney transplant'. He died of a pulmonary haemorrhage and multi organ failure. Well that's what the death certificate said . We don't know what caused the haemorrhage and we might never know but I just want to write down the sequence of events. It's an attempt to try and understand how something so routine could go so wrong.
To put this into context, the team who carried out the operation haven't had a death in 15 years. There was no reason to suppose Joe's transplant would be any different.
